Katsuyuki Watanabe, acupuncture therapist and associate professor, published a book entitled "Philosophy of Medicine" in 2011.Philosophy of Medicine is a doctrine that was originally set up by late philosopher Hisayuki Omodaka and the purpose of this study is to create better medicine, reflecting the principles of medicine. Watanabe' s basic idea comes mostly from Initial Oriental Medicine, which has been developed by Sadatake Arikawa M.D. Based on this oriental medicine,Watanabe believes that this world is composed of two quite different kind of worlds, one is Phenomenal World that is comprehensible for us through mathematics and the other is Latent World that is understandable not through mathematics but through our hidden original sensation which the ancient therapists used to have. With this sensation, the therapists can find out the disturbance of the flow of qi,and after solving this disturbance,a disease is believed to be healed. Watanabe is developing the medicine in which life is centered and emphasized, and self-awareness of life is encouraged. He named the ideal medical system ≪CORE≫ medicine. Shown schematically, ≪CORE≫ medicine includes core (i.e. natural healing capacity),core involves care, and care includes cure. In short,he tries to establish the philosophy of medicine where core, care, and cure are adequately arranged, and with which people can understand the essence of medicine more easily and more clearly. His book "Philosophy of Medicine",specially discussed from the perspective of oriental medicine,is a crucial step for the further development of this field.
